Alli Weight Loss Review and Alli Side Effects

Alli is marketed at the only FDA approved over-the-counter diet pill. It contains 60mg of Orlistat, which is a diet drug that helps treat obesity by preventing your body from absorbing the fat you consume from your diet. It inhibits the pancreatic lipase enzyme secreted by the pancreas that breaks down fat molecules. When this happens, the fats consumed from your diet are not absorbed, but pass through your body.

There are scientific studies done on Orlistat (the active ingredient of Alli), demonstrating that using Orlistat led to weight loss by the subjects. In a one year clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of Orlistat in helping weight loss, over weight subjects were given 120mg of orlistat (Alli contains 60mg). The subjects were 18 or older with body mass index (BMI) between 30 and 43.

Along with taking Orlistat, they also followed a calorie reduced diet. At the end of the study period, the average weight lost for the Orlistat group was 8.6kg compared to 5.5kg of the placebo group. The study also reported that the orlistat group also reduced their LDL cholesterol by 4.2%, concluding that taking orlistat with a calorie reduced diet helps with long term weightloss. They also noted that some participants reported gastro-intestinal side effects from using orlistat.

There are other studies showing similar types of results of using orlistat at 120mg. Alli is an over the counter diet pill containing 60mg of orlistat. Another large study involving 743 subjects lasting 2 years also found weight loss benefits of using orlistat.

From the clinical studies, and user reports, there some alli side effects mainly related to gastro-intestinal problems. Some of these alli side effects include stomach cramps, gas problems, frequent bowel movements, oily discharge, and constipation.

While Alli diet pills can help block fat absorption and help you lose weight as shown in the studies, it is important to point out that in all of these clinical studies, the use of orlistat was always combined with a sensible diet having a calorie deficit to help with losing weight. Along with Alli, you must ensure to have a good diet program that will help you lose weight and burn fat.
